What is the IB
The International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) is a non-profit educational foundation that works with schools, governments and international organizations. To develop challenging programmes of international education with rigorous assessment. IB programmes aim to do more than other curricula by developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed and to build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.
The IB programmes are different from other curricula because they:
Develop independently of government and national systems. Incorporating quality practice from research and our global community of schools.
- Encourage students of all ages to think critically and challenge assumptions.
- Encourage students of all ages to consider both local and global contexts.
- Develop multilingual students.
- Encourage students to be internationally-minded, within a complex and hyper-connected world.
In order to teach IB programmes, schools must be authorized. Every school is authorized to offer IB programmes is known as an IB World School.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) was founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1968. This office in Geneva is the global hub for support functions such as legal, intellectual property, tax and governance. The IB Global Centre for the Africa, Europe, Middle East region is in The Hague, the Netherlands.
