How to become an IB School
The IB is proud of its commitment to provide challenging and unique programmes of education to schools around the world. The authorization process backs up this commitment. The authorization process varies by school and IB programme, but typically takes between two and three years. The whole process comprises the following phases:
• Consideration.
• Request for candidacy.
• Decision on candidacy.
• Candidate phase.
• Request for authorization.
• Decision on authorization.
Authorization is a milestone in the life of an IB World School, not the finish line. Ongoing development starts from the moment of authorization, as the school uses the feedback it has received to update its action plan to continue to improve delivery of its IB programme(s). The IB offers a range of professional development, workshops and events that support the school as it works to strengthen its implementation and deepen its understanding of the IB programme(s) for which it is authorized. IB World Schools must meet ongoing professional development requirements that must be completed at evaluation.
Only authorized schools can teach IB programmes. Every school authorized to offer IB programmes is known as an IB World School.
