Parents
Parents and teachers create a relationship based on interaction, trust and respect.
They share the responsibility ofeducating learners through:
- Sharing of information between the school and the family (telephonic or written communication with notes as well as teacher-parent meetings)
- Encouraging involvement of parents in school events and activities
- Voluntary assistance of parents
At ISP we offer regular workshops to all our parents, to develop a better understanding of how the IB works and how we educate our students.
How can parents get involved in the PYP?
1. Attend parent meetings and workshops
2. Check ragularly the student's agenda, portfolio and all school communication.
3. Follow up daily with your child to see what they are doing in school, what they enjoyed, and what they found challenging. Help reinforce at home the program.
4. Ask children about the theme, central idea, and concepts into which they are inquiring... show interest in their units of inquiry and plan activities around them whenever you can.
5. Ask your child about the IB’s Learner Profile attributes - point them out in other people, in yourself, in your children’s actions and speech.
6. Volunteer in the classroom, school learning spaces or school events
7. Encourage your children to “find out” rather than telling them answers. Conducting research online, in a newspaper, educational TV, at home experiments will not only reinforce the skills being developed at school, but also show children that “school skills” are really “world skills.”
8. Children get a kick out of interviewing people they know, especially friends and family. So let them/us know about your hobbies or careers. We might be able to use you as another valuable resource during one of our units of inquiry.
9. Outreach with the community and help us build partnerships
10. Attend field trips
The full success of the ΙSP mission and IB PYP depends on the support from parents. In fact, all education does, but the IB PYP specifically the entire community is involved in the learning at school and at home.
