Outdoor Classroom

Even as a school in the city, we ensure that our students have access to large open spaces in nature for outdoor learning. The outdoor classroom takes place once a week for students aged 3-7, with the location adapting depending on the unit of inquiry being explored at the time.

Outdoor classroom

The concept of the outdoor classroom is built upon the premise that children are complex beings. To nurture a child holistically, early childhood education needs to follow the fundamental principle that children learn everywhere and continuously. Children need a broad variety of learning experiences and stimuli in areas such as gross and fine motor skills, social-emotional development, language development, and creative expression.

Activities

Most activities that can be done indoors can also be done outdoors. There is a full range of activities for children to participate in, including many activities that are traditionally thought of as “indoor activities.”.In the outdoor classroom, children are often able to initiate their own learning experiences and actions, with teachers always offering support.

Benefits

The outdoor classroom offers many benefits. Children experience nature in as many ways as possible. Physically, it helps in the development and strengthening of the body, promoting a healthy lifestyle. They breathe fresh air and enjoy a relaxing environment.
Mentally, it enhances language expression, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills through various activities and group work, encouraging an interest in science and mathematics by connecting with nature. Emotionally, it creates happy children, boosting self-esteem and promoting positive relationships in a non-competitive environment, reducing conflicts, and establishing patterns for an active, healthy lifestyle.
